Statistical Literacy
Perhaps a new paradigm - Statistical or Quantitative Thinking as a Fundamental Intelligence
I am proposing a new conceptual foundation to what we believe is statistics. The principle idea involves conceiving a spoken language or statistics, one which precedes the traditional written form that is taught in school and practiced by statisticians.
I have been exploring the idea that there is actually a learning statistics is like learning a second language. I think it is even more fundamental than what we believe mathematics represents. In exploring these ideas it brings up the questions regarding what aspects of mathematics is really critical and why individuals have so much difficulty with math - especially algebra and such "higher math" as calculus.
